Protesting Prop 8.
Posted by nico under: Life as we know it .
This week has been sort of a blur of emotions and happenings. While watching Obama’s press conference on Friday, I started to tear up. This was my man! The man I supported in the 13th district and later worked to elect him to the US Senate. Now not only shared with Illinois constituents, but shared with the world. I honestly feel that he was born for this job. I feel such a calmness when I remember that he’s going to be at the helm now. We are in safe hands, America.
I know that we’re all on a high from his our victory the other night, but we can’t forget about our role in making change. Prop 8 in California passed. While I agree that this needs to be fixed, I don’t believe that demonizing voters for their votes is the way to do it. Did your state even have the offer on the table? We need to educate people about why this Prop 8 should be overturned. We need to include these voters in our discussions. We need to work to get all people in this country equal rights. I mean…Arkansas voters approved banning unmarried and/or gay couples from adopting children. On one end we have a hugely historic election with Obama then on the other, we are still in the dark ages denying people their basic American rights. I hope that we can all turn out for the planned protest next week on the 15th. More info found at this link.
This is a new day in our country and we have the power to be a part of it. We have the power to make the world a better place…together. Never give up the hope and belief that anything is possible as long as we work towards it together.

I must admit I do not believe in Gay marriage, but I do believe that they should have legal unions, so if anything happens to their partner they will get the same entitlements as hetrosexuals have.
I have known and know many gay people and although their life style is not something I would choose, I condemn anyone who reacts violently or otherwise towards them…..that is their choice to make and who are we to judge?
We are at the end of the day all God’s children and we should all get along and live our own lives the way we are happiest.
